The Hill
The Hill has been a family oasis since the early 1900s. I am five generations removed from the grandparents who originally purchased it. The farm house was the first house constructed on the property.
This cottage was built in 1915 and is a Sears model. The rock chimney and fireplace were constructed from fieldstones collected while farming on The Hill.
Today, the cottage is one of five homes on The Hill.
In 2023, I was given the opportunity of a lifetime to buy a slice of my favorite place in the universe. With the generous hands-on support of my partner, family, and friends, we have been actively restoring the cottage since acquiring it.
The Hill comes with a rich history of family. In the 1930s, my great-grandmother ran ‘Morristow Hills’ summer camp here. You can still see the old camp play equipment and the farmhouse that served as the girls’ dorm and dining room. During the summer of 1942, my grandfather was helping his parents as a counselor. My grandmother was also a counselor that summer. Their time on The Hill together was brief, but it set in motion a lifetime of loving each other and raising a family together.
In 1970, my parents moved to The Hill to homestead. They raised chickens, goats, turkeys, and a lamb, and maintained a lush one-acre garden. Together with their siblings, they turned an old summer cottage into a year-round home. The Hill allowed them to stay close and raise their children together. It has always been a sanctuary—where friends and family gather for quality time together.
In the early 1990s, my family left The Hill and built a home nearby.
When we purchased the cottage in 2023, it gave us the opportunity to return to a place that has always been in our hearts. Restoring the cottage has been an all-consuming labor of love over the past two years. My partner, family, and friends have shown up in big ways to breathe new life into this old cottage.
